Friday, November 11th, 2022 is Veterans Day. The event for Armed Forces Day last May in front of my house (Lot 80) was a huge success even with the very limited advance information we sent out via Barry and word of mouth. Mark Youngberg, Dick Aten, Myself and others want to do it again for Veterans day this year but on a slightly larger scale and with an additional purpose. We would like to invite EVERYONE in the park, not JUST veterans but every one in the park and other invited guests. Our purpose is to have a celebration for Veterans but also for all of the residents in the park. It seems to me that lots of new residents and moved in and the face of Mc Gavin Ranch has changed somewhat over the last couple of years. Lots of newer and longer residents in some cases have no idea who their neighbors are and this would be a great chance for residents to get to know each other. I live in a cul-de-sac (SP), in lot 80 where there is a large area for people to gather and get to know each other on a very informal basis.
We are planning to start at 7:45 AM on Friday, November 11th (Veterans day) to honor our Veterans living and fallen and as mentioned give the residents a chance to get to know each other. People should arrive in front of my lot NO LATER than 7:30 on November 11th. The formal part of the event will begin at 7:45 AM and will only last about 35-45 minutes then the “Getting to know each other” portion begins right after the formal portion of the event. The event will last until the last person has left, there will be donuts, orange juice, coffee etc. We do not have enough chairs for everyone so bringing a portable chair would be a good idea. We will start with a short opening with Aida Meacham saying a few words honoring our Veterans AND remembering those Fallen Veterans who are no longer with us, I will say a few words right after Aida followed by the presentation of the colors, Bugle call as the colors are raised, The Star Spangled Banner and the pledge of Allegiance by John Wayne, anthems of all of the armed services and followed by patriotic music. Apparently there is a good motion to possibly merge with the car show that is to be conducted on the same day at noon. So a good day to get to meet your neighbors and just have a good INFORMAL time. A Special surprise during the formal event will be conducted for Veterans which I will not reveal now.
For those who do not reside at Mc Gavin Ranch and were personally invited by me to the event: The address is 8840 East Sunland Avenue, Lot 80, Mesa 85208
